General Summer Academy Employment Questions

I HAVE WORKED WITH NAPCA IN THE PAST, DO I NEED TO SUBMIT A NEW APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT?

Yes. We require a new application from returning staff members to be completed each year with an updated resume and contact information.

I HAVE APPLIED OR INTERVIEWED WITH NAPCA IN THE PAST, DO I NEED TO SUBMIT A NEW APPLICATION THIS YEAR?

Yes. NAPCA require a new application from all applicants to be considered for employment this year.

I JUST SUBMITTED MY APPLICATION. HOW LONG WILL IT BE BEFORE I HEAR FROM SOMEONE?

Please check your email for correspondence from a member of our hiring team, as that is our main means of communication. NAPCA hires on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. We receive thousands of applications each summer and are unable to respond to each applicant.

HOW LONG ARE THE SUMMER PROGRAMS?

The majority of our programs are two weeks long, plus staff orientation. Our programs begin and end at all different times during the summer, so there will be at least one that fits with your schedule.

Our Harvard Commuter program is our only one week program.

I DON’T LIVE NEAR ANY OF THE CAMPUSES LISTED, WHAT CAN I DO?

NAPCA has programs nationwide, including multiple residential programs, where the majority of the positions include room and board. These residential staff positions live on-campus in the university housing, with other staff and residential students, so you don’t need to live near the program location to work at them.

NAPCA also has non-residential positions for our non-residential/commuter programs.

AM I ABLE TO CHOOSE THE LOCATION WHERE I WILL WORK?

We do our best to accommodate your first and second campus options, as noted in your application and discussed in an interview. If we are unable to accommodate your top choices, we will communicate this during the interview process. NAPCA will not place you in a location without your approval.

CAN I WORK AT MORE THAN ONE PROGRAM LOCATION?

During the interview process, be sure to mention this and we can look at the campus programs to see if we can accommodate this request. Employees must attend orientation for all program locations. Employees are able to work different positions at different programs.

HOW DO I GET TO CAMPUS?

NAPCA employees arrange and pay for their own transportation to and from campus. NAPCA will provide employees with directions, the exact dates, times, and locations to report closer to the start of the program. NAPCA will also provide on-campus parking information and rates, if applicable.

I AM INTERESTED IN TEACHING WITH NAPCA. IS THERE A PREDETERMINED CURRICULUM FOR THE COURSE?

NAPCA will provide instructors with a course outline for each course he or she is teaching. The instructor is responsible for  developing a course syllabus with in-class individual and group assignments, homework assignments, and additional resources for students to take home.

I WOULD LIKE TO APPLY FOR AN INSTRUCTOR ROLE. CAN I APPLY TO TEACH A SPECIFIC COURSE?

You should mention any interests and qualifications in your application, but all course openings will be discussed and determined during the interview process. All course offerings are listed under the Program Curriculum section of a program page.

ARE THESE PAID OR VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES?

All opportunities with NAPCA are paid opportunities. Specific salary amounts are discussed during the interview process.

IT’S ALREADY THE SUMMER AND I SEE THAT THE PROGRAMS HAVE STARTED, SHOULD I STILL PUT IN AN APPLICATION?

Yes. We hire on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. Due to last minute needs, we are still hiring for positions throughout the summer, as needed. We highly suggest submitting an application at any point of the season. However, the earlier we receive your application, the more positions and locations we have available that match your schedule, skills, and interest.
