COLLEGE & CAREER EXPLORATION PROGRAM FOR
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

COLLEGE & CAREER EXPLORATION PROGRAM FOR
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Your College and Career Path Starts Here.

Overview

The heart of the NAPCA Summer Academy is our career focused curriculum, which is designed to help our students explore different career paths to help them learn about future academic and career possibilities and make connections with professionals from different career fields to get a taste of what a future career might be like. This will also help students have a better idea of what they want to study in college and start participating in internships or volunteering their time to experience their future career path. Students may find that they actually don’t like a certain career, and it’s better to learn this now, than when they are already in college and have spent a lot of time and money on an academic major or career training program that they no longer want to pursue.

Students will participate in a rigorous weekly program schedule filled with lots of indoor and outdoor fun activities and supplemental academic instruction courses in mathematics, writing and grammar, and public speaking. Students will also engage in academic skills development seminars, social-emotional development workshops, and career exploration seminars and simulations. Additionally, students will experience college life through interactive college tours designed specifically for elementary school students.

NAPCA Difference: “The NAPCA Family Commitment”

After students complete one of our college and career exploration summer programs, they will be invited to remain in the NAPCA family through participating in our college and career readiness counseling program, which operates throughout the year. Students will be assigned to a NAPCA college and career readiness counselor, who will provide year-round academic support and college and career advising services to ensure their continued academic success during their time in high school and college at no cost. After our students graduate from college, they will continue to receive academic and career advising services at no cost until they have reached their future career goal. To learn more about the NAPCA Family Commitment, contact us at support@NAPCAonline.org.

Academic Preparation for College

Academic-Enrichment-in-Math

Academic Enrichment in Math, Pre-College Writing, Reading, and Public Speaking

The academic enrichment component of the program provides supplemental academic instruction, which focuses on the following:

  • Closing the learning gaps in your student’s reading, writing, and math skills to improve their overall performance in school.
  • Preparing your student academically to get at least one grade level ahead in reading, writing, and math.
  • Developing your student’s personal style of speaking that is confident, energetic, and vocally and physically expressive to speak in front of small or large groups.
  • Building your student’s confidence and foundational skills in common core math and English language arts for middle & high school success.

Summer Mathematics Course

For engineers, scientists and mathematicians today, school might have been a starting point, but year-round and summer math programs and the like helped lead them to those fields. To that end, our staff finds high achieving students in public, private, and charter schools that have an interest in a STEM career or enhancing their math skills, and we give them the additional math programming and support.

The Summer Mathematics course focuses on the following:

  • Building your child’s foundational math skills & confidence.
  • Helping your child get one grade level ahead in math.
  • Strengthening your child’s math skills for academic success.
  • Enhancing your child’s understanding of common core math concepts & skills.
Academic-Tutoring

Academic Tutoring

NAPCA provides tutoring in Math, Writing, and Public Speaking daily from 11:00am – 12:30pm and 4:00pm - 6:00pm to help improve your student’s confidence and academic performance. In addition, the program offers additional tutoring hours Monday - Thursday from 6:00pm – 7:30pm.

Our tutoring program focuses on two key areas. First, we look to fill any learning gaps so each student has a strong foundation on which to build. To fill your student’s learning gaps, we will begin by providing a free assessment that will identify the perfect starting point for the program. Then, we work to help each student learn and master each new concept that arise each week. The goal is to ensure that each student has mastered the material, and is prepared for important tests, quizzes, and other assignments. Overtime, many NAPCA parents ultimately find their children mastering concepts that put them at grade level or ahead of their peers.

Pre-College Writing

The ability to use correct english grammar when writing and verbally presenting well-reasoned, well-supported arguments are key skills for success in school, career, and civic society. Yet most students in U.S. schools lack proficiency in argument writing, english grammar usage, and public speaking.

The Pre-College Writing & Public Speaking Program focuses on the following:

  • Improving your child’s ability to use correct english grammar when writing and verbally presenting well-reasoned, well-supported arguments.
  • Helping your child get one grade level ahead in English.
  • Developing your child’s personal style of speaking that is confident, spontaneous, energetic, and vocally and physically expressive.
  • Improving your child’s ability to speak in front of small or large groups, regardless of experience.
  • Strengthening your child’s writing and public speaking skills for college and career success.

Public Speaking Course

Your child can become an effective public speaker! In this course, students will discover how to talk confidently and persuasively to both large audiences and small groups. Students will learn how to plan and deliver presentations skillfully and how to manage one of the most common public speaking barriers—fear of failure. Students will also get tips on how to use both verbal and nonverbal communication effectively.

The Public Speaking course focuses on the following:

  • Improving your child’s ability to use correct english grammar when verbally presenting well-reasoned, well-supported arguments.
  • Developing your child’s personal style of speaking that is confident, spontaneous, energetic, and vocally and physically expressive.
  • Improving your child’s ability to speak in front of small or large groups, regardless of experience.
  • Strengthening your child’s public speaking skills for college and career success.

Social - Emotional Skills Development

Social-Emotional Skills Development Course

Social-emotional skills help us manage our emotions, build healthy relationships, and show empathy and understanding. Social-emotional skills allow kids and adults alike to understand and recognize our thoughts and feelings in order to connect with others. They help us communicate and express ourselves in the appropriate way in different environments and with different people. For example, a child may see her friend is upset and ask if she is okay. Kids with healthy social-emotional skills are more likely to succeed in school, work, and life. The social-emotional skills development course focuses on helping kids acquire the following skills:

  • Make friends and maintain friendships
  • Gain confidence
  • Resolve conflicts
  • Manage stress and anxiety
  • Learn social norms
  • Make appropriate decisions
  • Resist negative social pressure
  • Learn strengths and weaknesses
  • Gain awareness of what others are feeling

Limited aid is available and an application is not a guarantee of financial assistance. Scholarships will be distributed until all funds are exhausted.

Applying for a NAPCA Scholarship

Students can apply for a scholarship by completing the scholarship section inside the Online Application for Admission to the NAPCA Summer Academy. The scholarship application deadline is on a rolling basis until all funds set aside for families in need have been distributed. We will do our best to help as many students/families as possible but we cannot guarantee that every student that apply for a scholarship will receive the financial support they deserve this summer.

NAPCA is working very hard to secure more full scholarships for our students. You are welcome to join us in securing more funds to help more students/families afford to attend the NAPCA Summer Academy. However, at this time, we encourage students to break through the financial barrier and not allow their financial circumstance to restrain them from attending the program by proactively fundraising the additional funds needed.

Many of our NAPCA students have successfully secured the funds to attend the program with the support of their teachers, counselors, school, friends, family, church, NAPCA, and other stakeholder’s in the student’s community.

* NAPCA is available to help students and families fundraise. Please contact us at support@napcaonline.org.

Fundraising

Online Fundraising

Many of our students have used gofundme.com, kickstarter.com, and indiegogo.com to do online fundraising. Students and parents have reported that online fundraising was one of the best ways to secure the additional funds needed to cover their cost to attend the NAPCA Summer Academy. Our students and parents wrote a compelling letter to ask for donations from family and friends. Additionally, parents that maintained a Facebook page, they placed the donation letter on their Facebook page to spread the word to family and friends.

Online fundraising has proven to work for our students and parents. If you need help setting up your online fundraising website, our student support team is here for you. You can set up your personal online fundraising website in about 15 – 20 minutes.

To start raising funds online now, go to:

gofundme.com

kickstarter.com

indiegogo.com

Please contact our NAPCA Student Support Team (support@napcaonline.org) to receive assistance with your fundraising efforts. We can help you develop your own personal fundraising web page.

FAQ

The heart of the NAPCA Summer Academy is our career focused curriculum, which is designed to help our students explore different career paths to help them learn about future academic and career possibilities and make connections with professionals from different career fields to get a taste of what a future career might be like. This will also help students have a better idea of what they want to study in college and start participating in internships or volunteering their time to experience their future career path. Students may find that they actually don’t like a certain career, and it’s better to learn this now, than when they are already in college and have spent a lot of time and money on an academic major or career training program that they no longer want to pursue.

While building lasting relationships with peers, students will participate in a rigorous weekly program schedule filled with lots of indoor and outdoor fun activities and supplemental academic instruction courses in mathematics, writing and grammar, and public speaking. Students will also engage in academic skills development seminars, social-emotional development workshops, and career exploration seminars and simulations. Additionally, students will experience college life through interactive college tours designed specifically for elementary school students.

As part of your student’s membership fee, we provide a continential breakfast, lunch, and healthy snacks for our campers.  Most of our lunches come from local food vendors and are prepared fresh just moments before lunch.

If you decide, for whatever reason, to pack a lunch or additional snacks for your child, please leave out any products containing nuts for the safety of other children who may have severe allergies.

  • Parent Interview (Telephone)
The parent interview typically takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. During the interview session, we will ask questions to get a better insight on the areas (academic and non-academic) you think your son or daughter excels and needs improvement.

FRIENDLY AND HIGHLY EXPERIENCED STAFF

Our instructors are passionate about teaching college and career readiness courses—this is a must. We recruit industry professionals, college graduates, current Masters and PhD degree students, and upper-level undergraduates. Many NAPCA alumni return to “pay it forward” once they’re qualified to serve on our staff roster.

Absolutely! We can accommodate children with special needs—within the limitations of our resources, natural surroundings, facilities, staff ratios, and program standards—while preserving the nature of the learning experience for all students. We are not able to provide an attendant (one-on-one staff member) to address a student’s personal needs, nor can we accommodate medical conditions or impairments requiring treatment beyond the scope of our staff.

Before enrolling a child with special medical, mental, or psychological needs, please contact us to discuss potential accommodations.

If you would like to be considered for a scholarship, parents will need to complete the online admissions application and upload additional financial information to be considered.
